Introduction

This guide allows the players to farm 300+ materials such as Spinmetal, Helium Filaments, Spirit Bloom and Relic Iron per hour. It will use the Spawn-Trap method to farm the materials.

What is Spawn Trap

On your way to farm the material, you might see that the material and chest doesn't disappear right after you gather/open them, they actually disappear after quite a while. This is the backbone of this farming method. We won't allow them to respawn. They will stay in one place so that we don't have to FIND them. Just go to one place, gather, move away and gather again. This is called spawn-trap. This apply to both materials and Chests, but note that chest have much faster respawn time and they don't usually spawn in the convenience places, so trapping a chest is usually harder.

How to Trap Materials and Chests?

Materials and chests don't disappear the moment you gather/open them but they cannot be collected anymore. In order to trap them, you have to be fast enough to get to another area and return to the current area while they are still waiting to despawn. For example, you move from the Rocketyard to the Divide and then return to the RocketYard. After that, your previously harvested materials and chests will become harvestable again. Harvest the chest or materials then repeat the process til you have enough materials.

Finding An Area to Spawn Trap

Players need to find a area to spawn trap materials. Players need to go to Earth for Spinmetal, Moon for Helium Filaments, Venus for Spirit Bloom and Mars for Relic Irons. The location for farming these materials must be a place where you can get in and get out quickly using your Sparrow. For example, the Rocket Yard on Earth is a good place for sparrow running and leaving. Places like the Skywatch (The place contain the old Treasure Cave) is bad because you can only enter/leave the area on foot, thus making your cycle much longer, or even not working at all.

Players might want to find a place with low traffic. An area with few people wandering around. This is because having other people in the area will cause your chest or material despawn and voiding this method. I recommend avoiding all the initial spawn locations for patrol, all the respawn areas for Strikes (RocketYards, Embercave, Hellmouth, etc.) and the Vault of Glass area on Venus. Avoid these places because people will occasionally spawn there and screw up your runs.

Find an area that satisfy all of the above requirements, but you don't have to be too strict about it except the Sparrow part. If you don't want people to interrupt you but you want to farm in the Rocketyard. Just turn on your computer, download something that takes up almost all of your bandwidth. No one will spawn in your world anymore because your internet connection for Destiny is so low that the game will not match anyone with you. This is the most basic method. You can set NAT type or restrict the maximum speed on your console, they all work.

Spawn Trapping takes occurs in 2 phases: Setting up the Area and Carrying out the Trapping.

Setting up the Area for Spawn Trapping

Enter the area, materials or chests might not spawn at near the exit point of the area. Do your farm route normally but Do not gather the one near the entrance of the area. For example if you are farming in the Rocketyard, you see a Spinmetal near the house that spawns the Sevitor, you should leave it alone and move on to other materials and chests. This preparation phase allows the player to set up all the materials near the entrance in order to minimize your running time. Repeat the process until you find about 3 or 4 materials near the entrance. Now you can carry out the trapping.

Carrying out Spawn Trapping

With all the materials spawned at the entrance of the area. Plan your way ahead, go around, gather them all, hop on your sparrow, get out of the area as fast as possible, get back in right after that. And voila, here they are, all your materials, unharvested, at the same place, waiting for you to gather them again. Repeat the process til you are satisfied.

Tips and Tricks

  • If there are mobs at the area that attacks you, before you harvest the materials, kill all the mobs. I notice that the mobs spawn really slow if you keep running around the area and return. So for your own sake, kill everything that move to make your run easier.
  • Max your Agility stat by equipping gear that increases your agility. Higher agility equates to greater movement speed.
  • Don't leave the area too far and too long. You might load another area if you leave your current farming area for too long.
