Taken is the army of Oryx introduced in The Taken King expansion. They consist of versions of Fallen, Hive, Vex and Cabal enemies corrupted by Darkness. These enemies have modified appearances with new abilities and tactics when compared to their normal counterparts. Players will battle The Taken army on The Dreadnaught and beyond.

  • The Taken are rumored to be able to use their versions of Guardians' supers.

Description

Oryx wields the ability to control a twisted army of vile corruptions known as the Taken. These new enemies have been wholly consumed, possessed by the Darkness, bodies and mind twisted into service of their King. Now, they are bent to a singular purpose – our eradication.

The Taken Fallen

While there are no Taken Dregs, Taken Shanks or Taken Servitors, There are Taken Vandals and Taken Captains.

The Taken Vandals can create bubbles where no shots, grenades etc can enter, similar to the Defender Titan's Ward of Dawn super and the Taken Captains launch large bubbles of darkness which temporarily blind the player and deals high damage.

The Taken Vex

There are no taken hydras, taken harpys, or taken cyclops. There are taken goblins, taken hobgoblins, and taken minotaurs.

Taken goblins are able to put a shield up on another one of its allies, making that enemy immune to attacks until the player kills the taken goblin that is shielding it. Unlike normal goblins, taken goblins cannot lose their head and continue fighting, instead dying as if it was a regular headshot due to their "taken eye." The taken goblins will attack with slap rifles (solar)/torch hammers (void).

Taken hobgoblins are almost just like their normal counterpart, usually shooting at the player from far away. But instead of getting "heated up" when shot at, the taken goblin creates the missiles that will orbit around it until the player attacks it, heading straight at the player. These orbs act like a shrieked's last attack before it is killed. The missiles are hard to avoid, as they move fast and follow the player. The taken hobgoblins can replace them if given enough time. Just like the taken goblins, taken hobgoblins do not lose their head when you shoot them in the head, rather causing them to die like a regular headshot. The taken hobgoblins will attack with a line rifle (solar).

Taken minotaurs are harder to fight. Taken minotaurs have the ability to cloak itself, becoming invisible to the player. It will attack with a Boomer (arc) while invisible, creeping up on the player to Melee attack the player. The taken minotaur can be temporarily revealed when under heavy fire, or after they perform a Melee attack. Devoured minotaurs, which are different from taken minotaurs, will have a void shield up. Also, taken minotaurs cannot lose their head and still fight, just like the other taken vex. The taken minotaurs will attack with a slap rifle (solar)/torch hammer (void).

The Taken Cabal

The only main enemy in the game that isn't a taken from the cabal fleet is Colossus. There are no taken colossus, but there are taken psions, taken legionaries, taken phalanx, and taken centurions.

The taken psions are the easiest to dispatch in small numbers. They become harder to take down when there are a lot of them shooting at the player at the same time. Taken psions have the ability to "split" in half, creating a new, completely healed taken psion. This new taken psion can also split in half after a while, and if the player lets them stack up, they can become quite a problem. Taken psions usually attack with a regular slug rifle (solar). Taken slug rifles have a higher rate-of-fire.

The taken phalanx act differently than their normal counterpart. They do not use their shield to block attacks, instead using it to attack the player. The taken phalanx usually leaves the shield by its side, not covering the front of its body like a normal phalanx. When the player gets too close, the taken phalanx will attack with the shield, knocking the player away The taken phalanx is able to use the shield to create a large beam towards the player, causing a lot of damage and knocking the player away. This can be dangerous because the blast can knock the player out of the battlefield, killing the player. Luckily, the taken phalanx stops where he is and points the shield at the player while a swirling void appears on the shield, making it noticeable to the player as to when the taken phalanx is about to use its ability. Taken phalanx attack with a regular slug rifle (solar). Taken slug rifles have a higher rate-of-fire.

Taken legionary are just like their normal counterparts. The taken legionary are able to hop high distances like their normal counterparts. They usually spawn with taken phalanxes, attacking with a regular slug rifle (solar). Taken slug rifles have a higher rate-of-fire. There is not much more to say.

The taken centurions always have a shield up when they spawn. Their defense is quite weak though, making them quite easy to kill. The taken centurions can, however, spawn big orbs of energy, acting like missiles that will follow the player slowly and will deal great amounts of damage if they hit the player. They can be shot down with ease, though. The taken centurions will attack with a slug rifle (solar)/projection rifle (solar).
