The Summoning Pits is a level 12 Strike found in Ocean of Storms, Moon. The activity requires a group of 1 to 3.
Walkthrough
1. Enter Hive Fortress: go inside the Gatehouse, kill the 3 Hive Knights that defend the doorway.
2. Approach the Gate: A large group of a Wizard and other Hive enemies inhabit the overlook region. Defeat the enemies and proceed into the sword room.
3. Open the Gate: Get closer to the gate and set up your Ghost in order to get it open. This takes some time, as Hives enemies began to spawn.
4. Repel the Hive: As Hive enemies spawn, the area turns into a Darkness Zone.The initial wave is made of Thralls and Knights. Kill the Thralls first then eliminate the Knights on the left balcony. In the 2nd wave, Acolytes are alongside Wizards and Knights spawn at the right balcony. To avoid getting surrounded or taking too much fire, move between levels and sides. The 3rd wave spawns in the back of the room. A mini-boss, Cursed Thrall, appears along with Knights and Acolytes. As you're defeating this group, a Major Wizard and additional Knights enter the battle. Make sure you are always moving and watch the backs of your teammates.
5. Find the Summoning Pits: Your Ghost opens the gate after you've defeated all the waves of enemies. Stick to the cavern as it goes deeper into the Hive citadel. In the next room, players will battle an Ogre , a Major Knight and additional Hive adds. Kill the weaker adds first before turning your attention to the stronger ones. Get out of entrance the enemies were defending and continue with the caves and bridge till you have reached the Circle of Bones.
6. Enter the Summoning Pits: Go to the left and kill all the Hive enemies you see. Continue with the objective markers to the narrow overlook afar. Players will need to kill 2 Major Knights. Go into the entrance way at the left side and follow the road to to The Summoning Pits.
7. Defeat Phogoth: See the section below for strategy on defeating Phogoth, the Untamed.
Speed Run Tips

- Get on that sparrow! This time you can ride it all the way to the room with the three waves if you want!
- The three waves: This part goes by extremely quickly if you know where things spawn. The first wave is thralls to the top left. Throw a well-timed grenade and you can kill most of the wave. Next are knights from the same door. If you have your super use it here or just have all three people quickly kill the knights. The next wave starts with a bunch of acolytes coming out if the top right door. The stream out so a good grenade or a heavy machine gun can mow them down as they come out. If you do well, you can stay here and not be overwhelmed. Usually by the third wave things are everywhere so just shoot enemies in your way and focus down the wizards. They spawn in the back.
- Phogoth: This is the number one worst strike to cheese. And this is also probably one of the quickest bosses if you do it right (most people don’t). Follow my instructions exactly and you will be golden. 1) When the door opens clear all enemies in the main room and DO NOT SHOOT PHOGOTH this will only take a few seconds. 2) Run to the back left of the main room where the rocks are. You want to stay in this area for the entire fight. Do not jump on the platforms. 3) STAY PUT and shoot ONLY Phogoth and the thralls that run at you from the first drop ship. DO NOT shoot the knights or acolytes and DO NOT move from the area with the little rock. If you do this properly no more dropships will come, no wizards will spawn. This will allow you to focus solely on Phogoth and he will go down quickly. Of course most of the time you will be with someone who will stay in the first room or who kills the knights so tons of enemies will spawn. Just kill them as best you can and try to focus on Phogoth.
Phogoth
Phogoth, the Untamed is the final boss of the Strike. Unlike other Ogres, Phogoth's weakspot is his chest. Fire at it for critical hits.
Attacks
Eye Blast: Phogoth features a Eye Blast similar to the smaller Ogres, however it is a lot more potent and acts as an impressive wave of energy beam. When the Ogre fires it at you, run and find cover ASAP.
Ground Slam: When you get close to the giant, it does a spin attack that slams the ground and knocks all the players back.
Strategy
As you enter the fight do not spend too much time in the narrow entryway as you enter the arena because of the incoming adds including a Shrieker. Go in the big boss room, kill adds and attack the boss as you alternate between the floor level and balconies to avoid being swarmed by adds. There will be ships dropping additional Hive adds to the ground floor, when you're bailing to the lower platform, be careful of them.
When the Boss fires its giant Eye Laser, run and take cover.
- You can assign 1 to 2 players to add duties while the rest of the player(s) target the boss.
- If both of your teammates are dead, do not risk it, just let them respawn through the timer. Only resurrect them when it is safe.
At the end of the fight be sure to open the Gold Chest at the lower platform.
Tips and Tricks
- In the Phogoth fight, players can leave 1 to 2 adds alive from the initial wave of adds so additional adds will not spawn.
