Fusion Rifles are Special Weapons that require a short time to charge before firing. It is one of 11 types of weapons in Destiny. While Fusion Rifle is effective at close and mid range, it requires precise timing to maximize its damage.

*Fusion Rifle is similar to a mix of Shotgun and Plasma Pistol. Although it does not fire instantaneously like the Shotgun, the Fusion Rifle has greater effective range than the Shotgun.
A charge-up burst weapon effective out to mid-range. Does well in PvP and PvE, but requires practice to get the timing right.Prioritizing Charge Time over other stats for these - a fast charge makes the difference between unusably unwieldy and great fun.
Ward of Dawn is Defender's Super ability. Ward of Dawn creates a spherical shield for 30 seconds that protects not only you but also your allies from enemy fire. The sphere is about 4 meters in diameter. Although enemies cannot fire into the Ward of Dawn, player and her allies cannot fire out of it. Players and their enemies can move into and out of the Ward at any time. You can use it as a man-made cover to protect yourself from enemy bullets when they are healing or reloading. These are pretty lack-luster in the Beta. Aside from "style", there is little to recommend these over the Scout Rifle, which fills a similar role (high damage, semi-auto deliberate fire). Their mags / cylinders are too small and they don't feel as snappy as Scout Rifles.

As of the Game proper the significantly higher impact than at level Scout Rifles makes them an advisable choice for closer range combat.
A steady hand is required to use them properly as they require a the user to bring the enemy into very close range and the low magazine size and long reloads are unforgiving of mistakes at low levels different weapons are advised.
